Herman Ruijsenaars

Trustee
Herman, Peter’s younger brother, was born in Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania and spent his formative years in both Tanzania and Kenya.  After several years at St Mary’s school in Nairobi he completed his secondary education at the public school of St Edmunds College, Hertfordshire and then went on to pursue his passion for engineering at Loughborough University of Technology, graduating in 1977, attaining full member status of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (MIMechE) in the late 1980’s.  Whilst at university he joined Ruston’s (now an integral part of the Siemens empire, a multi-national global organisation with German heritage), a well respected engineering company based in Lincoln, as a student apprentice.  He has remained loyal to them ever since in several capacities, most of which have involved significant international travel and stints living abroad in Australia and Singapore.  His current position involves heading a team involved in Research and Development activities.  His strong links with East Africa have never been broken and chooses to return annually, with his brother-in-law, for R&R and to assist in keeping the mechanical machinery, assets and facilities at Pemba Lodge running like clock work.  His outside interests and hobbies include active involvement in UK motor-sport in both an official capacity and as a competitor, primarily rallying but also auto-grass racing, with his son and of course, the obligatory sport of ‘arm-chair’ rugby.
